Changing economy means demand for university will grow

Sixth form students celebrate their A-level resultsIn response to today’s figures on applicants in the 2013 UCAS application cycle, Libby Hackett Chief Executive of University Alliance said:

“The 3.5% increase across all university applications is not just welcome but essential for the future prosperity of the UK.”

“It should come as no surprise that demand for university places is recovering. It is predicted to rise further in the future and rightly so given the impact of technology on the complexity of most jobs. Given that human capital is now the primary indicator of future economic growth, these figures should be welcomed.”

“The best degrees will equip graduates for the fast-changing digital and knowledge economy. It is no surprise that many Alliance universities have seen a rise in applications, with courses that are embedded in the real world and linked to key growth areas like the creative and digital industries. With over half of all work placements being delivered by Alliance universities we are seeing a shift in what students want as they increasingly vote with their feet.”
