The ARU Safe Behaviours Ambassadors initiative is about modelling the safe behaviours to students, staff and the local community to ensure Covid secure campuses. Ambassadors are expected to model the safe behaviours from our community pledge and demonstrate how we deliver a safe environment.
As of October 2020, there are total of 17 trained Safe Behaviour Ambassadors working across Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough all of which are students and demonstrates ARU’s commitment to the wellbeing of our students, staff and the local community.
In short:
- Shifts cover peak hours on campus and Ambassadors are given specific areas to monitor to guarantee all of campus is supervised.
- These students act as advisers to ensure the guidelines are being followed and will escalate or report any concerns they may encounter. Ambassadors received training from our Health & Safety Manager at ARU and are provided with a Safe Behaviour Ambassador t-shirt so they are easily identifiable.
- The Ambassadors are also paid Voluntary Living Wage rate for the hours they work due to ARU’s Living Wage accreditation and via our on campus recruitment agency, ARU Temps.
- Safe Behaviour ambassador duties include reminding students and staff to wear masks in most indoor areas on campus, unless exempt, and distribute masks where appropriate.
- To remind students and staff of the one way systems around the buildings, to direct anyone to hand sanitiser points, implement social distancing and to note any queries that may arise.
- As the initiative was implemented on the first week of teaching it also provided our new and returning students with a friendly face on campus and provided a clear example of how to conduct themselves.
- Other benefits include providing our students the chance to earn money, gain new employability skills and help develop a sense of pride and belonging at ARU.
