University Alliance responds in support of #ProtectStudentChoice to government decisions in level 3 ‘rapid review’

Following the results of the government’s ‘rapid review’ of level 3 qualifications, University Alliance CEO Vanessa Wilson said:

“The Protect Student Choice campaign have again succeeded in championing the importance of BTECs: 13 of the AGQs they identified as essential have been saved from defunding in the rapid review of level 3 qualifications. We are proud to stand with the campaign and the Sixth Form Colleges Association as they carry out this important work.

Allowing students the flexibility to combine both technical and academic qualifications in a way that works for them is crucial to delivering on the government’s opportunities mission and plugging skills gaps within the future workforce. We’re pleased schools and colleges are now able to give students clarity on which qualifications are available for 2025.

The Protect Student Choice campaign continues to be vital in the face of a binary level 3 qualifications system; BTECs must continue to allow students the flexibility to study both academic and technical qualifications side by side.”
