The HuffPost Centre for Journalism, within Birmingham City University’s School of Media, gives the next generation of journalists first-hand experience of the media industry, working directly with HuffPost to do media differently. It provides a wealth of opportunities for students, placing them on a global stage and giving them real life experience of how news is produced and consumed in the current era, across a range of different platforms.
The scheme was set up in September 2019 but students have already made an eye catching impact on journalism. One student’s use of immersive reporting techniques saw him create a feature around music used in video games. Using video, audio, in-depth interviews and long form feature writing, the MA Multiplatform and Mobile Journalism graduate took advantage of new forms of storytelling to create an engaging and immersive experience for the reader. He was also named as a finalist in the international Shorthand Awards for his work.
